Americans to Tell Elected Officials Keep Your “Hands Off My Health!”
Over 30,000 Expected at America’s Health Care Town Hall in Atlanta this Weekend
August 13, 2009 (NEW YORK, NY): Hands Off My Health, the grassroots outreach effort of The Center for Medicine in the Public Interest-Advance (CMPI-A), will add its voice to a group of community and patient-based organizations at America‟s Health Care Town Hall this Saturday, August 15. It joins with more than 30,000 Americans who are expected to be in attendance, along with doctors, small business owners and organizations dedicated to free market principles and patient-centered care, to discuss ways to give people more control over health care choices and explain how current congressional proposals limit choice and give government bureaucrats control over medical decisions.
“The American people know that health care reform is not just about insurance, it‟s about having the freedom to determine what kind of health care we want for ourselves,” said Dr. Robert Goldberg, Hands Off My Health founder. “President Obama said, „Americans still believe in an America where anything's possible - they just don't think their leaders do.‟ That‟s why I‟m proud to be a part of America‟s Health Care Town Hall. Politicians are trying to force Americans to pay the government trillions of dollars to do to healthcare what Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac did to banking and housing. We are here today to provide examples of what is both possible and better.”
CMPI-A recently launched the “Hands Off My Health” campaign (www.HandsOffMyHealth.org) to emphasize that better health, increased access and quality should be the foundation of the current national reform debate, rather than a government-run public plan option that seeks to control costs by potentially stifling innovation and reducing treatment options for patients and providers.
Other groups participating in the event include Patients First, TEA Party Patriots, The Heritage Foundation and Physicians for Reform. The town hall will kick off at 1 p.m. in Atlanta‟s Centennial Olympic Park
Dr. Goldberg is available for interviews throughout the week to discuss this important event and issue.

Dear Congress members,
Like so many Americans, I’m worried about my health care. My gravest concern is the so-called public plan “option.” Government intervention doesn’t create competition, it kills it. I don’t want the longer waits, rationed care, and higher costs that accompany government-run plans. Everyone agrees that reform is needed. What we don’t need is a massive $1 trillion government program that co-opts our health care and leaves us with fewer choices
